About Our HOD

Dr. P. VENKATESHA MURTHY, Professor of Horticulture and Head of the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, 26 years of service in Teaching, Research and Extension in the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru. Completed Ph.D. Horticulture degree with distinction (9.50/10.00) from UAS, Bengaluru during March 1997 and Awarded certificate of appreciation for excellent studies in Ph.D. Research from Fertigation project, Kemira Agro Oy, Finland & Kemira Horticulture England and UAS, Bangalore.

About 60 Horticulture courses have been offered for both UG and PG students and Guidance for around 55 PG students of Ph.D. and M.Sc. are given as Chairman and Member of the Advisory Committee in the University.


Nearly 48 Nos Research papers, 26 Nos Research Abstract, 49 Nos Popular articles, 20 Nos Practical Manual Prepared, 06 Nos of Technical Bulletins, 04 Nos Leaflets were published and 08 Nos Winter School / Short Course / Training programme participated.

As Leader Research Projects Concluded- NATP Project : Rs.15.10 Lakhs, National Carbon Project : Rs. 5.67 Lakhs, UAS Research Project : Rs. 9.22 Lakhs, Nursery Revolving Fund Project: Rs.1.25 Lakhs

As a resource person 31 Nos Training Programme Organized (As Coordinator-16 & Co-coordinator-15), 367 Nos Farm Advisory, 64 Nos Training Programme Talk delivered (Resource Person), 18 Nos. Field Day Organized, 13 Nos. Radio talks and Doordarshan programme.

Served as RWEP Coordinator, PG Coordinator, Coordinator (External Examination), State Educational Tour Leader and Head of the Department in the University.

Actively involved in the maintenance of bulk crops of Sapota (19.00ha), Guava (1.20ha), Rubber (3.00ha) and Cashew (2.00ha), the highest yield and monetary returns were obtained from these crops and appreciated by the Associate Director of Research in the University.

Served as Head of the Campus Beautification Programme for Five years and has been actively involved in the maintenance of the garden and nursery in the campus. Developed a land scape design in front of College of Agriculture, Library, Bank, Post office, BSH and Naik Bhavan, Convention centre premises, Median of the main road of GKVK campus. The development of land scape work was executed at these areas of the GKVK campus with manicured garden resplendent with colors and contours. A new look at the GKVK campus has been developed for aesthetic look of the University.

Presently, Head of the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Garden and Nursery Management at Department of Horticulture in the University.
